CD Reviews

Don't buy it for the Trevor Jackson Remix
Maxim | 03/12/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I'm not big on remixes. I've never really liked them. But the Trevor Jackson remix of THIS FIRE pretty much ruins the song. Here's what I have to say about the album itself:

THIS FFFIRE [RICH COSTEY RE-RECORD]--This re-recording of THIS FIRE is actually better than the original. This is the only version of it where the backup singing wouldn't sound horrible if the lead singing weren't there. Featuring vocals by Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy.

THIS FIRE [TREVOR JACKSON REMIX]--This dreadful remix of THIS FIRE goes on for eight minutes and features terrible backup singing. The guitar sound is ruined and the repetition is awful. This is what you'll regret more than anything in buying this CD. Featuring vocals by Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy.

THIS FIRE--The worst thing about the Trevor Jackson remix is that it makes you realise how bad the backup singing in the original song would be if the lead singing were taken away. Sure, the original is a fine song, but you'll never listen to it the same way again after listening to the other two versions. Featuring vocals by Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy.

I give it 3/5 stars. You've been warned."
