CD Reviews

It's difficult to call this derivative . . .

"The rumors are true: Forgive Durden definitely evokes Gatsby's American Dream. This is true, however, for reasons that are only positive. First, GAD is so adept at mixing styles and whole genres within an album, and usually an individual song, that saying another band sounds like them is actually a compliment to their uniqueness. In other words, saying that Forgive Durden sounds like Gatsby's American Dream is saying they sound like no one else.

Another reason they remind you of GAD? They're lyrics are smart; and there's hardly any hint of broken-hearted suburban teenage angst. There are bigger issues at play here; again, much like GAD and, again, nothing but a compliment (if you want to hear the opposite, there are plenty of bands out there for you, i.e., Cute is What We Aim For, etc.).

Yet, it's the vocals that sets Forgive Durden completely apart. When FD slows it down a touch and the lead vocalist lays his voice bare, I hear Bright Eyes.

This is an impressive album. At worst, it's a bit derivate of GAD . . . and that, in my mind, puts them ahead of 99% of the bands out there. Pick this one up; these guys deserve the hype that some of their annoying label mates are getting."

"Even though many people think they somewhat copied Gatsby's american Dream, it is not exactly true. There are definitely points that they sound like Gatsby's, but the singer is a lot different, and the music is a little more catchy. In my opinion, this album has a chance to be one of the top albums of the year, but they don't recieve much recognition so not many people are familiar with them. Every song on this CD is different and brings something new to the table. If you like to listen to music , then you might want to take a listen."
One of the best albums ever bought!!!!
