Room at the Inn

(4 out of 5 stars)

"In the seventies, Foghat was one of those bands that you could always rely upon to deliver no-nonsense, high-fueled, bad a** boogie.

Back in 1983, I undertook a 3,000 mile drive from San Francisco to Norfolk, Virginia. The cassette tape of: "Boogie Motel" was one of the three tapes that got me from coast to coast. It got more plays on my car stereo than I can count.

This mega-voltage record has an Overture entitled: "Somebdy's been Sleeping In My Bed" that sets the tone: "Fee-Fyy-Foe-Foe-Fum" and a zillion guitars rap themselves around you before the fade out. "Third Time Lucky" gave the lads, yet another hit single, and it deserved to be one. The boogie can be fast or slow, but it will move you either way. Foghat, did indeed know just how to present this music, they were masters of the rock game, this music was hard to resist, but why would you want to?

The third tune: "Coming Down With Love" is a rompin',stompin' love song with a relentless backbeat, and really cool saxophones that will get you through Memphis in style. "Paradise Alley" breaks out the acoustic guitars and lonesome slide guitars that soon give way for a nice laid-back chorus. Lonesome Dave Peverett, has not yet been given his due as a solid vocalist, on this record, his singing is as good as it gets,

The title track is the opener of the second half of this record. "Boogie Motel" is great rock music with sparkling guitars and more of that beat that can't be beat...this IS music to drive to, of that there is no doubt.

"Love In Motion" is next, and it reminds me of Paul Rogers and Bad Company, more than just a little bit, it's the only time Foghat sounded like this for me, it's another first class rocker with guitars piled on top of guitars.

"Nervous Release" is a theme song for the Insane Asylum, frantic, wild crazy rock 'n' roll...you don't really get any release here, as this song get's faster and more uncontrolled as it builds to the end...dum, dum ta dum...it's over.

No bonus tracks, no extra liner notes or photos are a part of this. This is the same as the 1979 recording, with much improved sound quality. "Boogie Motel" is one of Foghat's, most consistent records, from start to finish...the hammer is down, hit the gas pedal...and go!

Four Stars!"

"Almost everyone that I know thinks of Fool For The City whenever Foghat is mentioned. Those fortunate enough to have heard Boogie Motel already know that this is Foghat's best work. I wore out the LP when it first came out. All song are great with the title cut being the best. Its a little on the short side but the CD is still a winner."

"This is one of the best Foghat cd's of the original lineup. Well written songs and excellent vocals and guitar work. If you want to see how great the original Foghat was, get this CD and the first two releases from this band in its original form. ROCK ON!!! Boogie forever!"
