This disc may not cover as wide a range as a Rampal sampler, but I think it's a better introduction to the flute. Michael Parloff plays all this music well, with such stylistic niceties as embellishments in the Baroque pieces and considerably different tonal qualities for the different styles of music. The Doppler Fantasy is an amazing flute showpiece, and Parloff makes sure that amazement will come across. Both keyboard players are excellent, and the recording is balanced so that you can hear them well. This disc should prove equally attractive to flute novices and flute specialists, and it is enthusiastically recommended to all of them. --Leslie Gerber

"This album is packed with flute blockbusters, but the flutist does not live up to the greatness of the music. His tone is often fuzzy and I don't agree with a lot of his interpretations. On the plus side, the recordings are well mixed so you can always hear the flute. This is a good CD for the wide sample of great music."
