CD Reviews

Freakadelic and funkalicious; multi-textured songwriting
T. Anders | Thompsons Station, Tennessee | 01/13/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Words just can not describe! The Floating Men continue to venture into new landscapes while the work of honorary floating guy (guitarist Chris Cottros) is simply stunning. There aren't enough superlatives to describe the performance. Moving seamlessly between a variety of styles (alternative, funk, techno, bluegrass, honky-tonk and even swing) those floating boys continue to impress in any and all dimensions. Jeff Holmes' growth as a guitarist has lifted his already potent songwriting to match the height of his poetic skills. Pick a tune...you can start anywhere...and listen. Though only an uninterrupted listening session opens the mind to the full floating experience any song can begin the journey. Jeff Bishop continues to be one of the most underrated drummers around and Scott Evans voice is smooth as his bass while supporting performances of this caliber (Jeff Coffin-Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Jerry Dale Mcfadden-The Mavericks and the aforementioned Chris Cottros) along with beautiful engineering (Gene Eichelberger-Neil Young, Jewel) mean The Floating Men are floating ever higher. Get yourself a slice of Lemon Pie and experience what floating fans will travel leagues to experience. And speaking of which, catch the show live if you can, Lemon Pie is best served fresh."
FLating Men at their best

"This, the fourth Floating Men studio effort, is once again a phenonemal CD. Holmes and company strike out into new territory both musicallly and lyrically. This album is a slight departure from the sound most fans of the Floating Men have heard, but they evolve into a new more exciting vein of music on this CD. Jeff Holmes lyrics still evoke passion and emotion. He is one of the best writers of our times. This CD is a must for any collector, whether you are fan of Rock, Country, Bluegrass, or even Gospel."
