The Golden Ansseau!!!
Impostazione | New York City Area | 07/13/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Fernand Ansseau is so handsome, he makes most tenors, especially the three tenors, look like blue cheese. Mary Garden was in love of his waspy waist, admonishing him never to gain weight, which he later did but not too much. This was an amazing comment coming from the Sapphic Garden herself, who was not too anamoured of men in general. She also respected his artistry, for in his throat, was a sound as golden as any EVER to come from a human throat -- believe me --- This is DIVINE singing when at its best. Milanov would have had a great partner to match her golden tones - inch per inch -- gold to gold.

The most beautiful vocalism on this disc are arias from Fevrier's Monna Vanna. The Tosca arias are well done but Giuseppe Lugo outshines him there, but who else? Of, course Thill will always thrill in Werther and Berlioz' Faust as no other. He does not have the top C of de Muro either. But his tone is GLORY!!!!!

Some time ago when I was introduced to some sopranos: Lubin, Hina Spani, E. Ohms, and even Anny Konetzni, I was amazed to hear that kind of vocality, so spectacular, full bodied, diverse, eloquent, and rare. I still can't think of anyone who can beat them in their particulars; Konetzni as Isolde, Ohms simply unbeatable Abseuchlicher!!, Hina Spani's Tu piccolo iddio!, and Lubin in anything where that quick silver can flow! I never thought I find comparable tenors.

Yet, Bernardo de Muro, Fernand Ansseau, and Giuseppe Lugo offer some of the most spectacular vocalism to be found. Yet, what held these men from bigger world fame? de Muro's Napolean complex? Ansseau's patriotism? or the rough and ready life of Lugo? I don't know but my Goodness -- when these three handsome dudes sing, I am blessed!!!"
