CD Reviews

You have to give these guys a try....they rock!

"I listen to everything from Children of Bodom to Dashboard Confessionals, and I must say that these guys were a great find. Farewell to Freeway has to be one of the best Metalcore bands around that I have heard in a long time. Beleive me, I have heard almost all of them and those claiming to be Metalcore. FTF's sound is very deep but beautiful at the same time. Their breakdowns are outstanding, simple, but sometimes simple is the way to go. There are only two bands that I know of that can pull off the heavy metal sound and then turn their sound into something beautiful. One is Killswitch Engage and the other is Farewell to Freeway. Give them a try and I promise you won't be disappointed!"

"Amazon recommended this for me and I was curious so I checked it out. There are quite a few problems with this sound. A big problem is, it's been done before. I'm not one that will dislike something purely because it isn't original. But I've heard this sound way too many times not to get irritated with it. That being said, there are some catchy hooks and it's not overly terrible. It's very listenable.

Now, the biggest problem with this album is the vocals. These vocals are what turn me away from metal bands like this. The closest thing to them that I can think of are the vocals of the band Gwen Stacy. Monotonous, harsh and forced. These are not good vocals. The front man has absolutely no range, and he's basically just screaming at the top of his lungs. They are the type of vocals that will really give you a headache after awhile.

The frequent clean singing isn't exactly a saving grace either. It's cliche'd and for the most part, poorly written. The so-called "breakdowns" are no different. There is absolutely nothing spectacular about them. They are a formulaic metalcore band.

The bottom line is, they aren't a very good band. I would pass on them. If you're curious go listen to their myspace page and see if you like it. I'm not right about everything, but in my honest opinion, this is a tedious and overall boring album.

Oh and also, KSE is the wrong band to compare to these guys. They seem to come up a lot when talking about metalcore bands like this and it's a shame because they're so much more talented on so many levels. I'm not a fan of Howard (Jesse is awesome), but he has so much more range and their music is just flatout better."
