CD Reviews

Love songs, par excellence!

"This particular group of songs is the very best of non-sexual, words of love. They say all the things you wish you could say to the one you love and cant. Eydie's voice is magnificent, her enunciation is perfect and clear, the musical scoring is without equal. I have owned the 331/3 album for years and played it to death. The love songs are still fresh and devoted. I love this CD. Buy it,, you will never be sorry!!"
A Glorious Love Album

"A glorious album! Eydie Gorme out did herself in this fabulous selection of songs. I wish that Eydie had a broader appeal because Frank, Billie, & Ella fans would or should love this. I really love HERE I AM IN LOVE AGAIN with its melody so haunting & lyrics so honest & intelligent. Somehow she can do covers of songs so closely associated to more famous singers & make one think she only sung them. Cases in point are Sinatra's IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS OF THE MORNING & Doris Day's WHEN I FALL IN LOVE. Her IDLE CONVERSATION is just that: conversationally honest & not petensiously phony as more famous songs can be. I don't know how well this sold but E. G.'s 1st 2 lps made the top 20 charts & Blame It on Bossa Nova reached 23. I'd like to think this did very well too. With a voice that surpassed or rivalled Carmen McRae's dramaticism, Jane Moragan's range, Barbara Streisand's humor, Frank Sinatra's swingingness, Ella Fitzgerald's purity, & Sarah Vaughan's vibrato, she is the best. Eydie has all the great quailties a pop singers should have. In this 12 songs set her vibrato, purity, & dramatics really shine."
THREE CHEERS FOR THIS MARVELOUS CHANTEUSE !!!

"Eydie In Love is an outstanding album from Eydie's earlier years as a performer. I certainly hope this CD becomes more affordable soon! Eydie sounds wonderful on this album. Her voice was truly a finely tuned instrument that brought out the subtle emotions of the lyrics to any ballad. The quality of the sound on this CD is nothing short of excellent. Moreover, the artwork replicates the artwork for the vinyl record album release from back in the day.

The album starts with Eydie Gorme singing so sweetly; she does "When The World Was Young" and she never lets go of a superfluous note! Eydie does "When The World Was Young" with a great deal of genuine feeling and just one listen proves she was quite an accomplished, natural chanteuse. "In Love In Vain" gets the royal treatment from Eydie; and listen for "Here I Am In Love Again." "Here I Am In Love Again" has Eydie handling tempo and key changes like the pro she was and still remains! The strings are used to great advantage as are the woodwind instruments. I love it.

"In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning" is a song I first heard sung by the immortal Frank Sinatra; but Eydie also does great justice to this ballad. Eydie performs "In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning" with great sensitivity; it's quite a torch song. "In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning" is a memorable ballad in Eydie's capable hands. In addition, "Love Letter" features Eydie singing throughout her very good vocal range; again she handles complex tempo and key changes like a pro. The strings are again used very well but the musicians never steal the spotlight away from Eydie. Eydie stays squarely front and center which is quite all right by me!

"Fly Me To The Moon" is especially beautiful when Eydie sings it on this album; her rendition shines so brightly. I could never tire of hearing Eydie Gorme sing this classic love song. Wonderful! "When I Fall In Love" shines every bit as brightly; Eydie sings this with panache and you'll enjoy this ballad if you like this type of music. "When I Fall In Love" and "Fly Me To The Moon" are major highlights of this album.

"Why Try To Change Me Now?" showcases Eydie in her natural element. I'm quite impressed with how Eydie delivers this number faultlessly. Excellent! "Impossible" is a very sweet, pretty number; and the album closes very nicely with Eydie Gorme singing "It Could Happen To You." "It Could Happen To You" is a highlight of this album and it easily left me wanting so much more.

Eydie Gorme certainly had the chops to perform anything she ever wanted to sing. This CD will prove that to you just in case you have any doubts. I highly recommend this for fans of Eydie Gorme; it will make a very good addition to your music collection. People who like classic pop vocals may also want to consider getting this album.
