The third volume in Ace's ongoing series of mostly up-tempo west coast R&B obscurities from the late 1940s and early 1950s upholds the standards of its predecessors and may just be the best one yet. An incredible 14 of these tracks have never been released before! None of the previously-released items have been available in any format since the advent of CD. Many major names of the era are featured (Johnny Otis, Little Esther, Hadda Brooks, Jimmy Witherspoon, Helen Humes) alongside favourites from previous volumes (Butch Stone, Three Bits Of Rhythm). All tracks have been painstakingly remastered from the original Modern Records acetates, and sound like they were recorded yesterday rather than 50+ years ago.
