CD Reviews

A bit better this time around.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"So after a few years of waiting for a new release, we're introduced to the new beast "Tetra Karcist" by Enthroned- but this time around with a slightly different line-up, which includes a new vocalist. I must say, I'm pretty happy with the change, especially in terms of the new vocalist. The new front-man's (I can't recall his name) vocals are, in my opinion, a lot better. They're more guttural and intense, whereas the last vocalist, as Enthroned fans probably know by now, gave a more screechy vocal performance. Not only are the vocals better, though, but the drumming has also improved (I'm not exactly sure but I believe they have a new drummer too). Actually it's some of the best drumming I've heard in awhile. The double bass drumming here is extremely fast and at times resemble the sound of a machine gun.

Aside from drumming and vocals, Enthroned has seemed to maintain their raw sound, which I personally see as a great thing. There isn't really a hint of commercialism here. They've also added a few eerie choir parts that really enhance the brutally haunting experience that is this new Enthroned album.

My only real problem with this release was some of the lyrics. The new vocalist is also the lyricist, so obviously I knew there was going to be a change in the content, but I still think some of the lyrics faltered a bit. But luckily, not all the lyrics are horrible ...some were actually quite good. So I guess it sort of balances out.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this CD to Enthroned and black metal fans. There's not too much not to like about it, actually. It's intense, has some great guitar and bass pieces, extremely fast drumming, throaty vocals, and even some added choral parts that will send some shivers down your spine. It's worth your money."
