Synopsis

Amazon.com
Even though he's suffered through some bad scripts and an ill-advised singing career and been eclipsed by a younger generation of black comics (like Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock), Eddie Murphy remains one of the most important--and funniest--standups to come along since Richard Pryor. This album reminds you why. At his best, Murphy is wonderfully inventive and accessible. There are some excellent old bits here: "Drinking Fathers," "Ice Cream Man"--plus some rare, unreleased routines from Murphy's New York nightclub days. This CD is an excellent addition to any collection; Murphy's impression of James Brown is worth the price alone, as are lines like, "What the f*** does 'gooney-goo-goo' mean?... Gus, your wife is a Bigfoot!" -- Michael Gerber

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I grew up wanting to "Party All The Time" and chasing "The Ice Cream Man". I had the complete version of "Bar-B-Que" and "Drunk Fathers" memorized. But, tell me this....where is my "Shoe Throwin' Mother"? That is a classic Murphy bit and it was greatly missed on this CD. This CD could have been better...but I still got my kicks!!! Eddie Murphy.....wierd to see him in Daddy Daycare and Klumps and think of how he used to be. I give the CD about a 8 out of 10."
