Los Compas de Nuevo Leon has officially been together since 2007. Accordionist and lead singer, Alfonso Sanchez formed the group after years of performing with other Norteño groups including the famous Carlos Y Jose. In fact, it was Alfonso Sanchez that assumed the front man position for that group when Carlos of Carlos Y Jose took a year off to recover from an illness. Upon the return of the original duo, Sanchez began searching in places like Durango, San Luis Potosi and Nuevo Leon for musicians to create a new band in the same Norteño tradition he loved so much.
After calling each other compa, they came up with the name Los Compas de Nuevo Leon because that is where the band calls home. From 2007 until now, the group has recorded one previous CD for a small regional Mexican label and has had several songs hit the charts of various regional Mexican stations.
This new CD, entitled El Preso de Nuevo Leon, represents the first major worldwide release for Los Compas de Nuevo Leon. With a variety of rancheras, corridos, cumbias and huapangos; the group brings years of experience to one brilliantly produced CD.
