CD Reviews

Wonderful surprise
Denver Listener | Denver | 12/17/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Any new disc from this under-heard artist is a surprise, but most especially a live outing. Twilley has made his name on rootsy power pop of the kind that trades on studio skills, from Spector-esque double-tracking of vocals to wonderfully polished guitar work. Given that, fans couldn't be blamed if they approached a live Twilley outing with trepidation, but any fears would quickly be dispelled, as Dwight retains his characteristically tight sound yet employs subtle grit to heighten the spirit of the proceedings. He draws on the breadth of his vast catalog, with one cover thrown in (the R&R standard "Slow Down," its presence justified by guitarist Bill Pitcock's rousing solo). The wonder is that everything a fan might have imagined Twilley's live sound to be like over the years is that and more, delivered in spades. The bigger wonder is that Twilley hasn't released a live disc sooner. Fans will overlook the few audio blips that appear between songs, grateful for the arrival of this jewel in the crown of Tulsa's reigning king. Dare you to put it on for any given demographic in your home, and see if they're not up and dancing by listen's end."
Dwight Twilley - All Access Live

"Well, it's about time for a live Twilley album. This one has the classic Twilley sound. Bill Pitcock IV, who has played guitar on just about every Twilley album, is there & though Phil Seymour can't be there, Susan Cowsill is, on backing vocals.

I love Twilley & always will, but...my biggest complaint about this release is that the tracks don't flow like a live cd should. the silent spaces between some of the tracks distract from the live feel.

Don't get me wrong, the performances are great & you should buy this. I just hope that sometime in the future a proper Dwight Twilley Band [Philly 76?] or Dwight Twilley [live at Rockabilly's dvd?] will be released.

Until then, Twilley don't mind...

Buyer Beware: Defective produst

"Beware of defective discs!

Mine had bothersome gaps of silence between each track of this otherwise fine live set.

I contacted Twilley's web-site and was told that someone screwed up and a lot of these got out before the error was caught.

This is not Amazon's fault, but you should check carefully before you buy!

I returned mine to Amazon and went to Twilley's site and bought it directly from the source!"
