CD Reviews

Is This an Incomplete Soundtrack?
Jeff | New England, U.S.A. | 07/12/2006
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I purchased this soundtrack because the film was so moving. Though the film's theme is similar to Born Free in some respects, it has enough originality that makes it enjoyable and worth viewing. We watched it as a family film and our children were taken by it, too. After my first listen to the soundtrack, though, I am disappointed because there is a cool tune that was in the film that appears to be deleted from this soundtrack, which was the impetus for my purchase of this CD. Also, there was a vocal song that sounded like it may have been a Peter Gabriel performance that appears to be missing from this soundtrack, which also inspired my purchasing the CD. I will listen to the soundtrack again to make certain I didn't overlook either tune. The first song was an upbeat song sung by a female in an African language that was really cool. I was surprised not to hear it on this disc. Perhaps only the songs written by the composers for the film score were cleared for this soundtrack, thus, omitting songs by various other artists. If this is the case, then I am dissatisfied."

"I love all of Carroll Ballards films, they make for great family viewing. The song that is missing from this soundtrack is by the Afro Celt Sound System and can be found on their album Vol 3: Further in Time ( and yes indeed that would be Peter G as featured vocalist).

"Kaboyi" missing from the soundtrack
A. Milton | Lilburn GA | 07/04/2007

"Several of the best songs are missing. I believe the one some of the other reviewers are looking for is the track named "Kaboyi" aka Woodpecker by Nana. The CD it's on is 'The Thula Project - An Album of South African Lullabies', which is very rare. I hope the Duma Soundtrack will eventually be re-released with ALL of the songs on it."
