"Power pop is alive and well in the new millenium, thanks to artists like Doug Powell! I discovered Mr. Powell's work in a somewhat backwards fashion, first noting him as a member of the power pop "supergroup" Swag (thier 2001 debut highly recommended!) and then reading that he had released solo projects previously. "More" is chock full of catchy pop gems containing jaunty, ringing guitar arrangements and Powell's strident vocal style, at times recalling Paul Westerberg's candy-coated sarcasm. Powell is also someone to watch as a lyricist...one of the most quotable lines in recent memory pops up on the hummable yet scathing "Empty Vee" when he laments: "Video killed the radio star and then committed suicide." Amen!"
