CD Reviews

Simply marvelous
Steven Keller | Fairview Heights, Illinois, USA | 06/13/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"A simply marvelous collection of some of Doris' lesser-known songs -- some released here for the first time! You will find yourself listening to this disc over and over. The several rock-influenced cuts on the disc, including the title tune, will suprise some. You will love this."
"Kiss Me Again, Stranger"
Oliver Penn | 10/08/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Kiss Me Again, Stranger" should have been a major hit for Doris Day. It was recorded around the same time she recorded "Secret Love", and you can tell by the sound of Doris's glorious voice. What a great song! Nobody could sing this as well as Doris Day."
Mostly unfamiliar recordings, but still sounds good
Bruce R. Gilson | Wheaton, MD United States | 02/14/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This CD contains an odd assortment of songs recorded by Doris Day from 1949 through 1958. None of them are well-known recordings by Doris, and very few are well-known songs at all. ("Orange-Colored Sky" -- better known by Nat Cole -- and "You're Driving Me Crazy" are the only songs I really recognized.)

There are only 10 recordings on here, and the combination of the fact that it's such a small set (most CDs these days have twice as many!) and the obscurity of the recordings is why I felt it deserves only four stars, not five. But 4, of course, still means I liked it, and if you already have nearly all of Doris' biggest hits, you might want to add this to your collection. There are other Doris Day CDs that should have higher priority in building a collection, but then, nothing here is really to be considered a bad example of Doris' great voice. There is quite a range from jazzy numbers to sweet melodies (the best song on here is, I think, the beautiful-melodied "The Second Star To The Right") so there's something for any Doris Day fan to enjoy."
