CD Reviews

"Time is Slipping Away" but however "Time is The Teacher"
70's music fan | mures romania | 10/01/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"listening to this 2 rare albums CD set i can't stop wondering why and for what reason especially "Voyager" just as other 3 releases of mr. Wansel as a musician have been so far so underrated and underapreciatted;

because as just another customer pointed out in his review about the other cd set wich includes his other 2 previous released albums reissued "Life on Mars" and "What the World is Coming To" mr. Wansel eclecticism is not only obvious but also amazing giving to a true serious, patient listener a great joy of listening;

I also never cease to wonder how and why 70's music still sounds so refreshing so amazing..

because here mr. Wansel turns out as a keyboard wizard once again not only the brilliant composer producer etc.

"TIME IS THE THE TEACHER" a timeless classic wich fits at its best my own concept of jazz rock orchestrations --the strings horns sections [not to mention the flute] interfere with the main theme of the song in a brilliant manner ; profound visions a brilliant team of musicians with the predicted outcome-- a brilliant masterpiece!!!!!!!

"VOYAGER" another brilliant exploration in the depth of spacey jazz rock with outstanding electric guitar saxophone trumpet solos and of course keyboards solos all mixted up in an unitary concept of making realy good music;

I'm pretty sure that jazz purists won't find something of their own on these 2 albums but there is a limit for human perceptions of each individual;

and frankly speaking mr. Wansel invites realy challenges the listener to a musical journey wich IMHO hasn't dissapointed me;

IMHO true great jazz [and not only jazz] musicians of the 70's and mr. Wansel is one of them succeeded in their task to push the limits of the human perceptions to higher limits where making good music doesn't mean only playing long [sometimes too boring] solos just for the sake of improvizing improvisations wich oftenly lead nowhere;

or simply to sistematically reject the presence of any electric instrument in the process of creating good music;

but challenging the jazz purists is not my goal in this review;

musical tastes are various, numerous and of course we relate to them in a relative way;

but what i like --talking about best 70's musicians is their effort to systematically compound various even different styles bringing them together across a piece or a record;[for those who might be interested in plz check out HARVEY MASON 'S "Funk in a Mason Jar" ,"Groovin' You" or ALL LONNIE LISTON SMITH'S 70's releases reissued on CD it worths every penny!!!!!just 2 examples];

i frankly believe that in the 70's they managed to do it very well in a much better better than the best smooth jazz musicians from today;some of them of course belongs to the golden era of the 70's but unfortunately times have changed not necessary in a better way but nevertheless "Time is The Teacher" as mr. Wansel's masterpiece proves that..

those who dislike disco era of course might be disssapointed especially by the second album from this cd set but I believe that althought it might sound as commercial--the ultimate contemptuos label--my oppinion is that dance music of the 70's as it appears on "Time Is Slipping Away" sounds much better than the usual nowadays hits;no offense I think that many dance -disco songs as they appear on this cd set sounds so good because they were made by serious musicians comitted to their work wich simply makes the 'commercial" label to be radical different from what we can hear today; just an oppinion;

it depends what you look for and I seriously think that despite the commercial label applied to most of the second album tracks you might be wrong;

"Time is Slipping Away" and "A New Beginning" 2 beautiful ballads, beautiful vocal performances [if i'm not wrong M Henderson sings on "A New Beginning" maybe nothing special for some easy listening for others but worth listening to me;

and yes of course the funk element not to be missed or skipped!!!!!!the last track of the second album is a well done funky style groovin'!!!

just as the first track of the first album;

but before jumping into superficial conclusions oppinions I frankly believe that this cd set worths every penny so BUY IT!!!!!!!

and LOL not to forget Latin Lover funky jazz rock --groovy!!!!!!

I only can say THANK YOU MR. WANSEL!!!!!!! you make our journeys throught life worth exploring;

and comforting everytime i listen to "Time is The Teacher" well i feel lots of anger why this world is so unfair but I hope the music remains as long as the human civilization will last on this raging planet..

finding some tiny oasis of peace, joy and possitive energy is something worth considering therefore i'm grateful to you mr. Wansel as much as to all my favourite musicians from the 70's;

YOU'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

because 'Time is The Teacher" althought is slipping away now...

finding pieces of a paradise lost throught your music mr. Wansel is something wich I'm trully gratefull!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU AND PLZ BUY IT--BUY ALSO LIFE ON MARS/WHAT THE WORLD IS COMING TO!!!!!well i just did it.. THANK YOU AMAZON COM!!!!!!
