A Perfect Solo Album !

"DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER was Dennis Edwards first solo album, as former lead singer of the classic Temptations. He first joined the Temptations in 1968 and stayed for 9 years, leaving in 1977. During those years the Temptations produced quite a few hits with Dennis, that included- CLOUD NINE, I CAN'T GET NEXT TO YOU, BALL OF CONFUSION, PSYCHEDELIC SHACK, PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE and MASTERPIECE, just to name a few. He rejoined in 1979 and then left for the second time in 1983- the following year is when he released this first solo album DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER. I like every song on this album and feel he made excellent choices in the songs he picked to showcase his big voice. The title song DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER, was sung by Dennis and Seidah Garrett, and it was released as a 45 single as well as a 12" extended version single. This song continues to be a popular favorite and has been recorded by other artists, including- 1987- The Kane Gang, 1992- The Nylons, 1993- M People, 1996- Junior Mafia samples this song on his hit GETTIN' MONEY, 1997- The Eurobeats, 2000- Vernon Garrett (who also recorded a remake of (YOU'RE MY) APHRODISIAC on his 2000 cd called DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER), etc. In 1998 there were a total of at least 12 new remixes of this song, this time Seidah Garrett was replaced by Janine Campisi. Also in 1998, Dennis recorded a new version with The Weather Girls (Izora Armstead & Dynelle) on their 3rd German album- PUTTIN' ON THE HITS.

A second song off this solo debut album DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER, was a song called (YOU'RE MY) APHRODISIAC- which was also a hit.

In 1985 Dennis released his follow-up album COOLIN' OUT and the title song was released and became a hit. For some odd reason this 1985 album has never been available on cd, but fans can find 7 of the 9 songs on the UK import cd- DENNIS EDWARDS: THE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION. Dennis rejoined the Temptations in 1987, and I'm not really sure if he ever left again because when he wasn't touring as the Temptations Featuring Dennis Edwards, he was part of a trio which consisted of ex-Temptaion lead singer members- David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks, called RUFFIN/KENDRICKS/EDWARDS (there is no record of anything being released by the trio). In 1993 Dennis released his third solo album called TALK TO ME. This third album cd is very hard to find, but does show up occasionally on e*bay, which is where I got mine. This solo debut album DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER cd is available here on Amazon as well as e*bay, and usually runs about $30 to $60 for a used copy, but is so worth it. If you want to hear slow dance grooves and love songs done Dennis-style, then get this cd, you'll be glad to have it in your cd collection."
His first solo album had some great songs but...

"Songs such as "In Another Place And Time", "You're My Aphrodisiac" and the classic title track made this one of the best-loved R&B albums of its time but the dance tracks suffer from overproduction."
