"Denise LaSalle is a soul singer of the old school. She does not indulge in vocal gymnastics but makes you feel the hurt, the pain and the desire of love and lust gone right and wrong. The bulk of the material is self penned and mostly you hear real musicians: listen to the blasting horn section on 'This bedroom's on fire' and the rock steady bass on every track. There's boastful blues, hurting country soul, slinky soulful grooves and a dash of gospel. Denise lives the lyrics and as with the best vocalists the singing conveys so much more than mere words can do.To boot the set is recorded in the legendary Royal studios in Memphis with Willie Mitchell contributing. Lastly this is a 2 cd set at single cd price - great value and great enjoyment."

"Denise LaSalle is best remembered for her '71 hit "Trapped by a Thing Called Love." While long removed from the mainstream R&B charts, she's made a number of very enjoyable "Southern soul" records. This 2-disc set is a very welcome respite from Destiny's Child and the other soul-less pretenders that currently permeate the radio airwaves. No vocal histrionics here-- just real emotion and a few laughs ("Lick It Before You Stick It"). And Bob Dylan lost the opportunity to record a tasty nugget with Denise (CD 2, track 1). You go girl!!!"
