CD ReviewsShort But Sweet D.C. Hanoy | Athens, GA USA | 04/26/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "This 1989 live CD has its heart in the right place, and although it's the best Lords since Frontier Days, it represents a holding pattern more than a return to past glories. The overall sound is pretty hot: Eric Ambel's slide raunch cuts a swath through Scott Kempner's scratchy (and underrecorded) rhythm guitar, while Frank Funaro and Manny Caiati bash'n'crash like a runaway train. The set list is strong (good cover of The Flamin' Groovies' "Jumpin' in the Night"), despite the fact that much of it was taken from their last two so-so records. But, to their credit, "True Love" and "Judas Kiss" have never sounded better. - John Dougan, Option ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Smokin' live set, especially Ambel's raunchy slide guitar. I didn't find Kempner's guitar significantly "underrecorded" as stated in the Option review. In fact, they seem fairly well-balanced -- Kempner in the left channel and Ambel in the right. My only complaint is the CD should have been longer, although I know it was marketed as an EP. Two covers (if you don't count parts of "Psychotic Reaction," "Pictures of Matchstick Men," and "Wipeout" interspersed throughout the CD) and an excellent "Judas Kiss."" Excellent Live Set gengen | Franklin, NC | 06/09/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "For some reason I remember this getting mostly poor to lukewarm reviews when it first came out. In retrospect, it's not bad at all and definitely worth having if you're a fan. A good mix of originals and covers, and yes it is short - only seven songs.
