"Then Again" Does It Again
Neil McGarry | 02/27/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once more, Deirdre zaps us with her laser wit and charms us with her catchy tunes. "Then Again" kicks off with the buoyant, "I Miss the 70's", which sets the stage for Deirdre's funny, insightful, and often touching insights into life, love, and, oh yes, dating. "My Old Boyfriend's New Girlfriend" has a rocking, Ben-Vaughn feeling, while the motor-mouthed "Jenny of One Hundred Dates" keeps your close attention lest you miss any one of Jenny's romantic misadventures. Perhaps the best thing about "Then Again" is that it's not a simple repeat of what Deirdre's done very well before, but an entirely new adventure. "When Maribel Runs" and "Did You Stop Believing" are both remarkable departures from what you expect, and they live up to their promise nicely. All in all, "Then Again" will grab you and keep you coming back, again and again."

"Deirdre's wit, honesty and wonderful song writing keeps me coming back for more... when will there be a new release? If a person could wear out a CD I've done it over "Then Again.""
Funnier every time you hear it

"The first time you listen to Deirdre's songs, you will think that they are pretty witty and entertaining. The more you listen to Deirdre's lyrics, the more you'll appreciate her unique sense of humor, because you'll catch new things every time. It's hard for me to pick my favorite song on this album because each one is great in it's own way. The line from "Kenya" where she tells us that her boyfriend "Will not eat or vote for a Quail" cracks me up every time. And you won't believe the twist in "Goodbye." "Old Boyfriend's New Girlfriend" is also spectacular. I usually like Deirdre's funny songs the best, but "Grandma's House" and "Caroline Back to Me" are both so sweet that they have actually made me downright weepy.
Her other CD, "Shuffleboard Queens" is great too, but I have to say that her new CD is even better.
Deirdre is also wonderful to listen to live. Listening to her CD is great, but she is even better in person. Sometimes her commentary between songs is as entertaining as her lyrics. Look on her website to see if she's going to be near your home town-- you won't be disappointed."
