CD Reviews

Now a rare peice of the Deep Purple legacy
Rick Christensen | Santee, Ca. | 03/09/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Being a long time fan of this band that became the number one favorite of mine from the first time I heard the immortal Smoke On The Water, I consider just about anything I get my hands on by them a treasure. One of which I don't particularly liked was the official bootleg collection. But almost anything else I have been overjoyed with collecting including a copy of this now unavailable live CD. Whether or not it becomes a collectors item and increases in value from it's limited production and sales, it won't be going anywhere soon from my collection. I'm not really sure why there was such a negative review from Ian Gillian and others for this release but I consider it another piece of history from one of the greatest Rock and roll ground breaking bands that ever were. And I still can't understand how they have not yet been nominated and excepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame considering some of the other inductees. I only look forward to the day they tale their rightful place in history and the next time they come around my neck of the woods so i can see them once again Live."
Look elsewhere for great DP live

"Great band, great setlist, but extremely poor performance. Why'd they bother releasing this show over others still in the vault?"
Get the Stuttgart show instead.

"I actually got this when it was still available with the Stuttgart show as a box set. Incidentally, the NEC show isn't quite up to the usual Deep Purple live standard. It was filmed, resulting in what is now the Come Hell or High Water DVD. Unfortunately, Ritchie was in a bad mood because of the cameras (again--see the California Jam DVD) and consequently didn't even get on stage until halfway through his solo during Highway Star. Most of the performance reflects his indifferent mood--it feels like the band, especially Ritchie, just wanted to get the show over with. There are a few bright spots, but considering that the Stuttgart show is a much better souvenir from the 1993 tour, you'd be better off passing this one over."
