CD Reviews

A cheerful little earful
JayDee | Virginia | 12/28/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Debbie Reynold's swinging 1960 Dot Records album FINE AND DANDY is re-issued as a Japanese 20-bit release. Backed by Jerry Fielding's lively orchestra, Debbie tackles such upbeat numbers as "Pick Yourself Up", "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries","Fine and Dandy" and "Give Me the Simple Life". Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but a great listen every now and then. Reynolds is in top vocal form here and is a surprisingly effective swinger. Never a top singer by any means, Reynolds' kooky persona makes her voice a pleasant force. This is a fun piece of 1960s kitsch, long before the dawn of Prozac."
A GREAT SINGER FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF MUSICALS

"Debbie Reynolds was not only a great actress, but also a great singer (remember "Singing In The Rain"?). The good surprise with this CD comes from the good choice of songs and the really good performance of Mrs. Reynolds. She can swing, belt and puts a lot of joy in each and every tune. In a time of singing consternation, such singers must be (re)discovered! A singing and swinging feast!"
