Synopsis

Album Description
After his grandmother's death from a year-long struggle with cancer, David Stephens took advantage of the time he spent with relatives and the stories they told. Stephens turned their stories into songs. "Ma-Maw's Garden," is the true story of his great-grandparents who moved from the county to the city then back to the country because Ma-Maw was scared the neighbors were looking up her skirt when she worked in her garden. Some of the tracks come from Stephens' everyday life, inclduing "Beverly," about his favorite bank teller, and "Wal-mart Song," where everybody finds themselves at some point in the week. Stephens picks the 5-string banjo on most of the these tracks and is joined by New Orleans friends: John Lutz on upright bass and tuba, Gina Forsyth on Fiddle, Mike West on guitar, mandolin and percussion, and Darlene on brushes.
