CD Reviews

Ray Charles' former sax in two good sessions !!!
R comme Ralingue | Bordeaux, France | 07/10/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Two albums from Atlantic Records (with a preference for the second one - Newmanism - "Foxy Brown" is a tremendous funky groovy piece that no one will deny. The other pieces are also great). The sax player who once was in Ray Charles' band has a sweet sound of his own. Here, this is a two-disc box set. Electric jazz fusion is played. It dates back to the early 70s but, still, it's much better than most of the fusion records that produced each year. David "Fathead" Newman plays the tenor sax and the flute. It's melodic, fun, "sunny" and the compositions are more than interesting (I'm thinking of soul and groovy pieces like "Foxy Brown", "Sweet Tears".). A shere and genuine success that does not fear repeated listenings.
