CD Reviews

David Guetta Bridging the Gap
Timothy Thompson | 04/20/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"David Guetta, a renowned DJ released the album "One Love" and it has been taken by masses and has been doing phenomenally on the charts. The 15 track CD infuses the world of Techno music with the voices and sounds of some of the top artists in the music industry. David Guetta does an excellent job of fusing the different styles of music that the artists embrace into a mash up of his own ideals and visions.

The tracks embrace many aspects that are very clear in the history of technosonics music. The song "I Wanna Go Crazy" sounds much like the sounds of early computer music using the synthesizers. In the song one could hear the many points where there are multiple synthesized musical spikes in the song. The song also embraces the technique of looping. Will.I.am the artist in the song's lyrics are the driving force of the song. The lyrics of the song are used to drive the `crazy' experience that song is calling for.

Further David Guetta's music resembles music from the Techno musical centers of the world. The music resembles much of the music that one would hear in Ibiza or Argentina. One of the very positive aspects of the music that David Guetta creates for this CD is the combining of two very different types of music to make a sound that is very marketable to a crowd that may not embrace Techno music.

David Guetta's whole CD resembles much of the sounds of Goa Trance music, back to the days of Goa Gil. The music like Goa Trance music is hoping to get the crowd to go on a journey of musical fulfillment. The composition of the CD resembles a trek through a technological forest of lights and thumping music. This idea is created by embracing of concepts that are similar to Electronishe Muzik. The music uses wave generators, noise generators, filters, and ring modulators that are similar to the Electronishe Muzik.

Even further beyond the composition of the songs the lyrics of the songs embrace a narrative of partying and having fun. He grapples with love, deceit, and partying. In "I Wanna Go Crazy" the whole song is about being able to separate oneself from reality and `go crazy' and just have a good time. In "When Love Takes Over" it is very clear how lyrics are about the moment when someone falls in love and has no control of their feelings for the other person. The composition of the song only helps to build upon the concept of the song with the constant rising of the song that resembles the point in which `love takes over' and a person is completely in love.

David Guetta's CD is a masterpiece to say the least. It is being blasted on college campus and in the homes of many. David Guetta has become an icon for the face of Techno music. One can only hope for more great CD's from David Guetta and for him to constantly create more new and interesting ways to construct music.

"Every artist has that one cd that get's them noticed. For David Guetta after two previous tries this one is it!! An excellent collection featuring varied dance styles from Hip hop to house with some of today's best vocalists like Kelly Rowland, Akon & Estelle. The first single, "When Love Takes Over" is a heart pounding throbber. While Akon's "Sexy B**H" takes the beat to entirely different direction with a wicked baseline! Also included is David Guetta's electro remix of "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. Estelle's rhythmic "One Love" is also included. While the album is a virtual "greatest hits"

MISSING KEY TRACKS:

I have one valid complaint. The U.S. version is missing two great tracks: "How soon is now" Featuring Julie McNight who was the vocalist in "Finally"; a song considered one of House Music's greatest ever and "Toyfriend" a raunchy upbeat song by Wynter Gordon that is as good as it gets!

Get this cd from Amazon Uk, if you can as it has a total of 16 tracks. It also has both version's of Akon's hit (clean and unclean.)

OR BETTER YET,

GET the ONE LOVE XXL (3 cd and 1 DVD Limited Edition boxset) featuring 13 extended tracks from the original version plus all the main remixes for SEXY BITCH and WHEN LOVE TAKES OVER. Included as well is a dcoumentary and video clips!

A MUST HAVE for any serious DJ or fan!!!
