"What con one say about this album? Perfect in anyway you want to look at it. "The Gallery" was released in 1995, the same year as At The Gates' "Slaughter of the Soul", and a year after In Flames "The Jester Race" (band that switched singer with DT for these albums). The scene was at its best. Dark Tranquillity proved they had nothing to envy of these bands, and released one of the best death metal albums to come out of Sweden ever.



I agree with most of the reviewers featured here so, if you've read any of these reviews I warn you in case you want to keep on surfing. Otherwise, keep on reading. "The Gallery" is simply amazing, from beginning to end, with no fillers or weak songs. You'll find cascades of melodies, epic or classic, one after the other, mixed with catchy rhythms and solos and the most creative parts and arrangements, combined with different speeds and tempos. All this made a very dynamic and versatile album. But these words make no justice to this album's greatness. You'll have to listen for yourself. everything carefully arranged, setting their own particular and technical style. "The Gallery" is 100% pure Swedish Metal blood, without using any sampler or electro stuff, just guitars, bass and drums, and lots of folky elements, put together with originality and style and perfectly arranged. That's talent! For example, the addition of female vocals in a couple of songs, and many more.

From the first riffs of "Punish my Heaven" you know you're into something interesting or special. The album has a good sound that wiil let you enjoy all the marvellous melodies, like the ones in "Denspring" or "The dividing line", or the magnificent solos of "The Gallery" and "...Of melancholy burning"



I confess you that I had a couple of DT's albums, but not "The Gallery". I've never been a huge DT fan, but I liked their albums though. One day I enter into a local store, and found the album on sale and then got it. I admit instantly falling in love with this album.

If you're into swedish death metal or metal in general, and don't have this album, you're missing one of the biggest milestones of swedish metal.



ps: in this edition you'll find a nice Metallica cover, "My friend of misery". The album is worthy itself alone so, with or without cover I recommend you to get it anyway!

It's already achieved legendary status amongst metalheads worldwide, not only for its standing as one of the famed mid-90s Gothenburg, Sweden bands that created the melodic death metal genre, but equally for its stellar consistency from the first to the last track. Yes, it's that good.Unless you've been living under a rock, or somehow thought metal was the latest LINKIN PARK album, The Gallery is most likely already in your collection and this review will serve little more purpose than confirming what you already knew. If for some reason you don't have this album, for shame. Read on.The Gallery was DARK TRANQUILLITY'S sophomore release, following the equally legendary Skydancer debut and preceding the equally revered The Mind's I. It's rare enough for a band to put out 3 straight consistently high quality songs, let alone 3 full albums. At any rate - stop me if you've heard this before - DARK TRANQUILLITY managed to capture all that is good about aggressive thrash, death metal & harmonious lead guitar work and created 11 songs of pure metal bliss. Even today, nearly 8 years later, this album stands tall above many of the bands that DARK TRANQUILLITY themselves can take some credit for spawning. There have been exactly 3 or 4 monumental moments in the history of heavy metal, beginning with the advent of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late 1970s (a movement that DARK TRANQUILLITY is no stranger too, as they've cleared paid homage to the masters like IRON MAIDEN here). Bands like IRON MAIDEN, SAXON and JUDAS PRIEST created a style that has influenced thousands upon thousands of bands and continues to do so today. In the early 1980s, METALLICA and MEGADETH created what came to be known as thrash metal, which in its simplest terms was a rougher, more aggressive and more technical traditional metal. In the late 1980s, DEATH and MORBID ANGEL took that and turned the anger up a notch; death metal was born. In the early 1990s, bands like DARK TRANQUILLITY and their peers IN FLAMES, AT THE GATES, EUCHARIST (and a few others) melded the best parts of all those styles and voila, melodic death metal was born. Like it, love it, hate it, be sick of it, DARK TRANQUILLITY will always be a part of a scene that spawned an entire genre of music. Not many bands can say that. And no, I didn't forget about all you corpse-painted black metal kids; that scene just has no bearing on the point I'm making here (and for the record, the early-1990s Norwegian movement led by DARKTHRONE & MAYHEM is the other major metal moment I earlier referred to).And that's about it; I didn't feel like going through songs, or describing how wonderfully harmonious the guitars are, or how incredibly passionate lead growler Mikael Stanne's vokills are. Whoops, I just did. The bottom line is that this is arguably 1 of the most important metal albums ever, at the very least of the past 15 years. No metalhead should be without it. The rating above is a no-brainer. Get it."
