CD ReviewsMathias' Orchestral Music Brian Mathie | Tucson, AZ United States | 10/05/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "Another winning CD from Lyrita features orchestral music from the twentieth century Welsh composer William Mathias. Born in 1934, Mathias is known by most for his choral music. He did however, write three fine symphonies. The majority of this disc contains five of his earlier orchestral pieces. Written in a tonal easy to listen to style, this music is influenced by the early music of the English master, Sir Michael Tippett. The last two selections on the CD show Mathias at his most modern. Laudi and Vistas share the same sound world as his own Third Symphony. Again,twentieth century music that is easy on the ears, and delicious for the mind."
