Dale's third solo effort takes a momentary departure from the music genre creation of cinematic pop started on 2001's Midnight Street for something a bit more traditional. These thirteen tracks, mainly recorded over a four day period in early 2002 marks the collaboration of Maxfield and several other Kansas City musicians taking the role of writing and recording on as a challenge. Dale says, "This project was all about a group of people seeing what they could do together in a short period of time. We wrote it in the studio, which was something I'd never tried before but figured if it was a good enough process for the Beatles, it was good enough for a Dale Maxfield CD." The result is a collection of rock gems including the easy pop of "Too Complicated," the heavy folk rock of "Mississippi Lies" and "March Symphony" to the piano driven "Broken Promises" and synth splendor of "Holding On" and "Lullabye of New Year's Day." "5'6" can stand up to the best of this six foot world.
