CD Reviews

Strong for a Reunion Album
jacktheidiotdunce | Racine,WI | 02/22/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I think it is strong for a reunion album because it was recorded like five years after Dag Nasty broke up and that isn't a long time at all. Well, it has the same members that were on "Can I Say". So, Brian Baker and Dave Smalley patched up after the late-Dag Nasty(Baker/Cortner/Carrion/Garrett) joked about Dave's voice on the "Field Day" album. Some say on this album Dave Smalley does what Peter Cortner did on "Wig Out", instead of his harsh screaming on the first album(he does a little of that too). That's awesome because "Wig Out" is my favorite Dag album and possibly one of the top 10 80s albums to me. The songs are mostly about the band, Dave Smalley's experiences and everything. Plus two classic Dag Nasty tunes that were never released before. "Mango"(with vocals) and the catchy joke song about the bassist "Roger. The only throw away track on here is "Lay down and die", I don't enjoy it because I have bad music taste, it doesn't suck. 4 stars, because it just can't reach any of the classic albums and the cover song. Essential for Dag Nasty fans and Dave Smalley fans. Everyone one eles will coin it an average record."
Thrown together on vacation and whos dale nixon????

"well while every one was on vacation or taking a break from side projects this was thrown together not bad for a quicky i wish they spent some more time on it .so if ya ALL never heard dag nasty this is not one of there best but i like it the same .they are the band that basiclly coined the sound of emo on there legendary wig out at dekos album, but this has the origanal singer dave smalley of ALL and down by law fame.and also brian baker minor threat/bad religon.but when you get this you notice where is brians name who the hell is dale nixon??well for ALL of you who never heard the name it first appeared on black flags my war album well as you might know greg ginn was dale nixon on that one.and brain baker is dale nixon on this one.he could not use his real name because of legall mumbo jumbo.there are alot of dale nixons out there look out for them ALL so any ways not there best album and its one that was made for the fans even if it was done real fast the best part of the album is the uk subs cover also the old songs theyb never used and the great production that took longer to do then the playing imagine if they spent a little more time on it .but ya know compared to some things going on today in the punk relm compared to that heap of crap this is awesome just take youre blink 293 album and this not even great album and this is still better..lol"
Just to balance out the bad reviews

"I wouldn't normally give this such a high rating, but there are narrow-minded punk rockers out there that would give this only 1 star just because it wasn't a total rehashing of their first two albums. No it's not total fast angry hardcore, but musically it's a very good album and a lot of fun. Brian Baker's guitar work is good as always and Dave Smalley still has the best sing-scream voice in town. "Mango" is my jam and supposedly it was one of their older songs that never got recorded. At least that's what Dave told me."
