Canadian pianist-composer D.D. Jackson combines the eclecticism of Keith Jarrett with the angular right-hand runs of Don Pullen. On this CD (which translates to "follow me" in Spanish), Jackson is backed by a young New York rhythm section consisting of Cuban drummer-percussionist Dafnis Prieto and bassist Ugonna Okegwo. They swing with a strong Afro-Latin feel, especially on the gospel-tinged track "The Welcoming," the hip-hop accented "Jam Band," and the fast and furious "Cubano Funk." The mellow-toned guitarist Freddie Bryant joins the trio on the title cut, which also includes violinist Christian Howes. D.D. Jackson's solo piano composition "Prologue" offers the best aural evidence of his ingenious blending and shaping of classical and jazz influences. --Eugene Holley Jr.

An amazing CD that just won't leave my CD player

"If you've heard some of D.D.'s previous work, it's safe to say the man is an outstanding pianist and composer. He combines the technical and the funky and throws in a handful of beauty. Now this album is under Jackson's leadership, but his sidemen cannot go unmentioned. Dafnis Prieto, without a doubt one of the best drummers in the world today. He is an überdrummer, versatility is his game. Bassist Ugonna Okegwo is a player that can alsmot effortlessly hold his own with Jackson and Prieto. He sounds great. In the months before the album came out I was under the impression that Omer Avital would have been on bass. I'm not sure how Ugonna entered in here, but it would have been insane had Avital recorded. Nonetheless, a solid album, excellent compositions.
