Smooth vocals, original material, and exceptional talent combine to produce this interesting 13-track sophomore effort by Costumbre. Winning tunes by this Zapata, Texas-based outfit include "Quiero Decirte," a lovely mid-tempo polka fueled by singer Manuel Edgar Lujan's aching vocals, and "Eternamente," a suave ballad whose sophisticated lyrics put a new spin on the familiar better-to-have-loved-and-lost-than-never-loved-at-all sentiment. Like their debut CD, Dejame Ser was produced by Carlos Cabral Jr., who helps polish the group's sonic signature. At times, however, their youth is a hindrance: though their folk-rock-norteño fusion shows lots of promise, their potential is sometimes not fully realized, and many tunes sound alike. "Dejame Ser is a great norteno album. La Costumbre has a unique, refreshing style. Anyone who buys this album will be completely satisfied. Every single song is amazing. Eternamente is a beautiful, and deep slow jam. Y ya despues has a dope norteno beat. I can never get tired of hearing this album. They're debut album is also mind-blowing. In a nutshell... go buy both of their albums....you won't regret it. Peace!!!"

"La Costumbre delivers one of the most complete norteno albums of the year with "Dejame Ser." While most CDs amount to a smattering of singles surrounded by filler, La Costumbre has put together a work that flows smoothly from beginning to end. The subtle, intimate vocals and playing show the group is in touch with norteno's rural roots and make it clear that the band is more interested in musical synergy than noisemaking. The lyrics are also a cut above the norm, focusing on typical themes of romance but avoiding mindless repetition. With little touches like the unexpected change of key and melody at the end of "Un Minuto de Silencio" the band gives that extra push that's the hallmark of a top-notch release.The group borrowed a page from La Firma's playbook by re-recording two ballads in adult contemporary style, adding keyboards and jazzy chord changes. These could have worked but just missed the mark, because the accordion sounds out of place and the drumming is a little too mechanical."

"I love La Costumre. Since I live in roma, texas. I don't know how many preformances Costumbre has done here. I'm pleased that Costumbre has played in my town and that I have gotten the chance to meet them. Their hometown is a few minutes away so there always here and there. I'll i have to say is that costumbre has the greatest tejano music. Their songs are sooo great to dance too. Costumbre definitely deserves more than 5 stars!"
