CD Reviews

Dangerous
Karl E. Balsara | Columbia, MD USA | 07/07/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"To the reviewer who mentioned this is good music for driving when you're in a hurry, I think that falls short. This is the sort of music that causes wild abandon when driving. The sort that causes you to see speed limits as loose guidelines and think anything within double is perfectly safe. My honest rating would be 4 and 1/2 stars for this album, but that's not an option, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. This once can get a bit monotonous after a couple listens, though this is a bit of an aesthetic judgement on my part. I imagine to the dancer, the beauty is in the simplicity of this album. Nothing is overdone. There is a solid beat all the way through and a good sense of build up that encourages the same abandon on the dance floor as it does on the road. Concept is an active, danceable album all the way through. There is no doubt that this album was made for the dance floor, and it succeeds in that respect all the way through. Where other albums fall short in this regard, loosing the beat for a sentimental song half way through, this one keeps driving hard. And unlike a compilation album, this one has enough focus that you can take it for granted and just move along with the beat. Concept's self titled album is a great first effort and I look forward to seeing more from this artist."
It's great for what it is!

"Well, I can't say that Concept does anything incredibly original or breakthrough on their self-titled debut album, but for what it is, it's great! One of the best trance albums I've ever heard, actually. There isn't a bad or mediocre song on it. I discovered these guys when I searched on Amazon for artists under the Water Music label because I have "Under Water Volume 1," a compilation of Water Music artists, and I really enjoyed a lot of the songs on there. Apparently there are only a couple albums currently out under this label, but I look forward to more. If only Balligomingo wouldn't keep getting delayed...Grr..."
