"Though the subtitle says this is the "Spellbound" concerto (adapted from Rozsa's film score for the Hitchcock thriller), it is not. Both concertos date from twenty-odd years later in Rozsa's career (in the sixties), and both feature a somewhat more intense sound than most of his familiar film scores (Ben Hur, Ivanhoe). Closer in sound to the many scores he wrote for film noirs in the 40's -- sounds something like Bartok, though more enjoyably melodic (but still-driving!). Fabulous work from one of the best composers of the century."
