In an age of disposability--where new, supposedly smarter products quickly outdate those less savvy--it can be difficult to teach young children the values of preserving natural resources, recycling, and responsibility to our planet. Now, in addition to modeling Earth-friendly behaviors, moms and dads can play Environmental Songs for Kids. Here New England musician and school teacher Coco Kallis shares a dozen tunes that function as both entertainment and holistic learning tools. Kallis keeps the songs simple and in kid-favorable keys for the sake of accessibility, and includes a lyric sheet and notes on key signatures, along with questions and activity ideas corresponding with each song. Kallis's warm folksy vocals are accompanied by guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and accordion. Sandwiched between two versions of "If We Don't Fix It" (a Caribbean-flavored anthem at the beginning and lighthearted blues at the close) are songs both old and new performed in the vernaculars of country and folk music, including the good-time Cajun-styled "Pretty Paper." --Paige La Grone
