CD Reviews

The deepest & most profoundly spiritual album to hit the air
Eric A. Brasure | Nashville, TN | 03/10/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

""This is my worship this is my life, to bring hope into this broken world", perhaps the greatest hardcore worship anthem of 2010. Unabashed and unashamed Close Your Eyes attacks the heart with vocals and lyrics that will pierce the soul. Self-categorized as a mixture of Rise Against and A Day to Remember, Close Your Eyes' first release, "We Will Overcome" is a brilliant mixture of heavy hardcore riffs and brutal screams with the fluidity of indie rock.

Close Your Eyes highlights a growing trend within Christian musicianship, artists that choose rather than to wear their faith as a label or an article of clothing, they make their faith their heart and their music flows out of that passionate desire. The result, perhaps one of the deepest and most profoundly spiritual albums to hit the airwaves. Close Your eyes and enjoy this album as we endeavor to rise above the current, "We Will Overcome"."

"The Music:

The music of this album is very well done. The riffs are cool, the drum beats are vicious, and the vocals are exhilarating. The sound is very high quality and never fails to be less than awesome. Vocals range from punk style fast shouting to regular clean singing to light screams to heavy screams. There are a few gang chants, used no where near that of A Day to Remember.

The Lyrics:

The lyrics are deeply religious. Phrases such as "With every breath we take, let our lives proclaim the promises that we made to you" truly do make you happy to listen to these songs. I'm not the most religious person, but singing along with the songs in my car actually does make me feel good in a spiritual way.

The Band:

Amazing. The guys in the band are really cool dudes. I saw them live and they put on a great show. Granted they're not very popular so they usually play small venues and don't have much going on on stage. However, they definitely get the energy going and love the crowd. I spoke with members of the band before and after the show and they're really down-to-earth kind of guys.

Final Thoughts:

It's a great CD and a great band. I highly recommend buying the album and urge you to look to see if you can go to a live show."
