CD Reviews

Daniel Does some EBM
suchman | 06/22/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"With Cleaner (the natural evolution of Cleen), Daniel Myer (haujobb, NEWT, Architect, Myer, the list goes on) does some catchy EBM type music for your average industrial music fan. Unlike huajobb or NEWT, there is nothing especially remarkable on this disc... but it will "get stuck in your head".Each of the songs bears remarkable similarities in sound to some other bands out there (old LeatherStrip, Covenant, Apoptygma Berserk, Funker Vogt, Depeche Mode, etc.), but without the repetitiveness that EBM bands tend to get stuck into. The songs all vary in sound from one another quite a bit, but still manage to fit together into a cohesive record.I can imagine some DJs and hardcore EBM-ers not liking the longer, ambient styled intros floating in front of many of the tracks, before they take off. But, the tracks make up for it. They present rigid rhythms, some nice melody work, body moving synths, and some occasional "how-the-hell-did-he-do-that" production tricks. The vocals are very professionaly done (Daniel is becoming quite good at real singing) with a guest appearance by Vanessa Briggs (huajobb's LESS and OVERFLOW). Definitely pick this up if you like industrial, EBM, or electronic pop music, and it will fit your fancy. If you are a fan of Daniel's drum'n'bass work, you are advised to approach with caution."
The best clean(er) release yet

"Another new realease from Daniel Myer- following on from 'the voice' single. This is a very cohesive album which in many ways harks back to the sound of 'solutions for a small planet' era haujobb. Daniel's singing talents have definitely improved and the ever adventurous bleeps and bloops of this very futuristic music continue to dominate this release. This CD is definitely the best album cleaner have recorded, and a lot of the tracks are very dancefloor friendly. Notable highpoints are LSD eyes, Neuromancer and 1984. The And One remix of the voice improves on the original too - no mean feat.I thoroughly recommend this album, especially to haujobb/cleaner fans- but also to anyone who enjoys dark electronica and futuristic music. There are sounds on here that you will not have heard anywhere else."
Evolution of Cleen
M. Randall | Allen Park, MI | 01/07/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Cleaner is the continuing of Cleen. This time around Myer was going solo on the project (it later transformed 1 more time into Clear Vision). I actually enjoy this album more than Cleen's Second Path mainly due to the fact that Daniel is the main vocalist on this album and I didn't much care for the guy they had doing half the vox on 2nd Path.

Vanessa Briggs also guest stars on here so if you liked Haujobb's Ninetynine there is something for you here too."
