CD Reviews

A common man's point of view.

"Would you believe I bought this CD by mistake? I'm glad I did, however, because I have listened to it several times. I often listen to music through headphones when I am going to sleep. You might be surprised to know that I often never hear the end of the CD. The music on this CD includes The Saber Dance by Khachaturian, Coppelia--Ballet Suite, by Leo Delibes, Sylvia--Ballet Suite, by Leo Delibes, and Selections from La Bayadere, by Leon Minkus. All of this music is ultra beautiful even though it is slightly fast.

I just this year fell in love with ballet, and it now possesses me. Of course the same music from the ballets is on this CD, however, the orchestra (on the CD) plays some of it way too fast. I don't think any dancer could possibly dance to it, which makes me think that the conductor has probably never conducted music FOR a ballet. Aside from that, this is a very good CD and very reasonably priced, even with shipping and handling. If you have not begun viewing ballet on DVD, take the advise from a common man, and take the plunge. You will listen to music in a different way. One time I was listening to samples of music by Adolphe Adam just to see if I would like ballets with his music. I thought at first I would NOT like his ballets, but after seeing Giselle, I can tell you that his music SOUNDS completely different when it is DANCED to. I don't know why that is, but I think the brain causes the ear to hear it differently, when coupled with sight. Then too, it may be that the Conductor who knows how to conduct for the dance, creates the difference."
