CD Reviews

A BEAUTIFUL AUDIO JOURNEY

"I received Cielo y Tierra's CANTAMOS LAS PROMESAS cd as a gift from someone very special to me - someone who knows and shares many of my tastes, my appreciation and love of other cultures...someone who knows me well enough to know that I would thoroughly enjoy this recording. From what I can gather from various web sources, the band is from Mexico - there is a strong Latin feel to the music, along with some elements of Native American culture. The album contains many well-written and well-performed songs (in Spanish), with a few short tracks of chanting in between some of them - and two of the songs feature English vocals by Jon Anderson, singer for the English band Yes. The tracks are performed in a variety of rhythms - some gentle, some more energetic - but in every single case, the music is imbued with the breath of life and of living. It never gets `top-heavy' or overbearingly loud or forceful. My absolute favorite track is `La promesa del pescador' (`Promise of the fisherman') - the combination of the lead vocal with the background chorus is perfect, and the melody is beautiful and memorable. This song has been recorded by many artists - for another excellent performance of it, check out the COMMON GROUND cd by the Paul Winter Consort (also available through Amazon.com).I've had this cd now for 2-3 weeks, and it's been almost constantly at home in my player - I know I won't listen to it so constantly forever, but neither can I imagine myself getting tired of it. It's a joy."
Enjoyable!

"Strong drums and singing/chanting combined with great, more lyrical, vocals by the smokey voiced male lead. Bit of world beat rock with primal drums and up beat choral chant. Spiritual, light hearted, passionate and fun! The CD works well as an entire work, with one song merging into the next nicely. Mostly in Spanish with a little English. The overall feeling is a wonderful driving beat and colorful song."
Excellent back-to-nature mood

"Cielo y Tierra mixes contemporary elements with American native music to good effect. This CD is excellent for a quite evening relaxation and meditation since its harmonies carry most of the tracks in a spiritually uplifting manner."
