Synopsis

Album Description
Jon Gaunt and Chuck Ragan teamed up with Austin Lucas, his father Bob Lucas, and Bass fiddle man Digger Barnes on this release. Together they hit it off from the very start and comprised a solid record of 12 numbers. They came up with a great and special moment that was quite unexpected. Austin and Chuck have planned this project for sometime now, even though this record is considered a split collaboration between all individuals involved. The songs consist of 3 Chuck Ragan originals, 3 Austin Lucas originals, 3 Ragan/Lucas originals, 1 original by Bob Lucas, and 2 old time standards called Darling Corey and Distant Land To Roam. The record has a very strong sense of bluegrass, folk and old time gospel, with a certain feel of exactly where we were and what was going on when we laid it down, which was a group of strangers coming together to enjoy good food and music up in the hills on the highest point of Ohio for a week, and leaving as friends by the end. They recorded this session at Bob Lucas and Laura Gayle's home on top of Bristle Ridge in Zanesfield, Ohio.

Pure Music for our Cluttered Times
Robert Butler | Where the action is | 06/16/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Music at its finest- honest, passionate, and inspired. Thank God artists like Chuck, Austin and the rest exist, they put light in our lives and keep us hopeful and afloat. This album along with Ragan's other solo work is some of the best music to come out in a long time. Do yourself a favor and pick up his work, get together with friends, and enjoy the hell outta life."

"I mainly picked up this record because Chuck Ragan is I guess you could say is a personal hero of mine. Anyway I got home after a long work week and loaded this on my record player and dropped the needle (bought the LP). I was instantly blown away. The record is very bluegrass and full of energy, life and passion. When I finally got to "The Light," something hit me, I stopped what I was doing and just listened, then I suddenly felt my eyes water up, I was touched by a song in a way that a song has never touched me before. It's very rare that a record leaves me breathless. This record is more than just music. It's something beautiful that can't really be explained, it just makes you feel wonderful. It's worth every penny."
