CD Reviews

New Yawk Rock and Roll
Howard S. Finkel | MAPLEWOOD, NJ USA | 04/04/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once upon a time live music is what you went out for. These days live music is not as much a draw and what passes for live music most of the time, is humans manipulating programs. This CD takes you back to the good old days of raunchy, sweaty, New Yawk rock and roll. Cherry Vanilla and Band never became superstars but this album is a great memory of times that were. Some of the lyrics are hilarious and the band plays with imagination and fire. Am I biased ?, yea a little I played bass on the thing. The band on Bad Girl were a great little band from Queens augmented by a Brazilian keyboardist and fronted by Cherry. Buy this and be taken back to the days of Max's Kansas City (NY) and the Marquee Club (London) circa 77-78. Message to Cherry-When are we gonna do another reunion gig?, it';s about time and now there's product to promote."
Young Boys will love Cherry!

"Ugh! I just paid a fortune for these on vinyl, but with this reissue, you can thrill to 2 LP's of cheap pleasure! Highly recommended to all 70's power pop punk new wave historians. This is no groupie novelty record, but 2 strong, genuine efforts, from a lady who proves that it's possible for female rockers to be assertive and sexy, without the man-bashing pose required by grrl groups of today. Guitarist Louie Lepore is an unsung hero of the nascent new wave scene. My favorite track? I'd have to say it's a tie between the first 2 cuts on Venus D'Vinyl, Amanda, and Young Boys. Hell, when she drops her name into the latter tune, exclaiming "young boys, they love Cherry, I'm inclined to agree! Yeah!"
The Queen of Punk!

"These two Cherry Vanilla albums, combined onto one CD,are the essence of the NY punk/New wave underground scene, circa 1976-1981; it's only rock & roll, but i like it,love it,yes I do!"
