CD Reviews

The Cheapest Trick...
Jerkat1 | San Diego | 06/10/2010
(1 out of 5 stars)

"This album is without question the worst in the Cheap Trick catalog. The sound and production represent every tired cliche of the 80's, the music is uninspired and trite. There are a dozen albums to start with before you get here, this is the last stop for completest."
God AWFUL

"I love this band....always have. Their 80's releases were hit or miss, at best. Everything after Next Position Please suffered from overly glossy production and weak songs.

This is easily their worst - even BUSTED has more to offer than this one.

There are TWO...count 'em TWO songs that are worthy of Cheap Trick - "It's Up To You" and "It's Only Love." "Are You Lonely Tonight" and "The Doctor" could have been good if they weren't bogged down by so many keyboards and slick 80s goop. The rest is just AWFUL. Period. It almost sounds as if they are TRYING to alienate their fans.

Skip this release and go straight to "Standing On The Edge." Another overproduced release, but at least the songwriting is better....

Dated , but not all bad

"This got a bad rap when it came out back in the 80s. I started pulling out some of my old Trick CDS after hearing their fantastic new one. Doctor has some weak moments but overall it's still an interesting listen. It's Up To You is a good opener but is dragged down by some cheesy keyboards. I really like Kiss me Red and Take Me to the Top. But, they save the best for last in the wonderful It's Only Love. If you're a Trick fan, you gotta have this one!"
