(5 out of 5 stars)

"What more could you ask for? Well, perhaps a complete Charlie Ventura box set, but that's not likely to happen! (Classics is putting his stuff out chronologically) This set has the Pasadena concert, lots of Condoli trumpet, and lots of Charlie's "tasteful" solos (I don't know why he gets labeled as distasteful sometimes, when almost every tenor man has gone over the top at one time, or another!) Really a shame he didn't record more, later in life. Sound is quite good, not perfect, but very listenable, the booklet is like a mini book, more info than you will find elsewhere on him, as far as I can tell...complete discography for all the tracks in the set...comes in a nice, not too big hard cardboard case...lots of good proper sets, including the Gene Krupa set, which has most of the great Ventura sides from the Krupa's late 40's small group sessions...."
