"Where has Carol Sloan been all my life? Her rendition of "MEMORIES OF YOU" is one of the most exciting things I have ever heard. The piano accompaniment of Stefan Scaggiari is beyond belief. In case you are wondering, I am madly in love with Carol Sloan...."
An album to bring tears to your eyes...

"...even as it brings a smile to your lips. I don't know another album which so consistently makes my heart full and brings a lump to my throat. The tracks responsible include Heart's Desire with lyrics by Dave Frishberg and Alan Broadbent. I have to confess I don't even know exactly what the song is about, but Sloane's gentle delivery of the poignant melody is very moving for some reason. Another song that has the same effect on me is Fairy Tales written by Chan Parker(!) and Per Husby. I do know what this one is about and its theme of growing up and recognising the harsh realities of love and life is perfectly rendered by Sloane. A few lines like "I'm left with reality, and half my heart" really cuts like a knife. Besides being a great ballad singer( Carmen McRae says she has "a perfect voice"), Sloane also swings, gently but surely on tunes like Memories of You and Devil May Care. Oh, special mention to a song by Carroll Coates called "You'll See" which Sloane sings with sexy panache. This is a wonderful album to get to know Carol Sloane by, and to pick up some obscure but beautiful songs."
