CD ReviewsInsightful carmina KARL | 08/04/2010 (4 out of 5 stars) "Despite Hurwitz's pan of this performance on ClassicsToday, something that delayed my acquisition, I find this to be a beautifully judged and highly insightful Carmina. There is an expansive quality to this performance that I like. There is a similar humanity to be found in the Previn DGG performance. And Runnicles on Telarc is good. Pristine has released a beautiful restoration of the Sawallisch (1956) version which was my initial introduction to this peculiar work. The score's visual regimentation belies the resulting wide range of performances. The sound is a little more cavernous than usual for Chandos, but it is clear as a bell and somehow appropriate to this work."
