CD Reviews

The hardest tjade to find....
Tyler Durden | los angeles | 09/07/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"i paid 50 bucks for the vinyl. i have been waiting for this to come out on cd. it has been very hard to come by. the breaks and hip-hop fans will recognize the tjader's "aquarius" as the background music to the female narrator on tribe called quest's "midnight marauders." my introduction to cal came by way of that tcq record. i now own everything he put out.. i think.. always searching. you cannot go wrong with his sound. it is pure escapism. if you like the sound of california cool mathematics jazz... it's all about brubeck and tjader. the prophet is a much fatter and muzak sounding work. not as latin as most of his albums, it brings the jazz right to the fondue pot and into the turtle neck. check out descarga for a full range of tjade including a version of the stone's "gimme shelter.""
If you like Strings & Choral Voices you'll like this!
Mr. G. D. Simmons | UK | 11/14/2000
(2 out of 5 stars)

"Being an avid Tjader fan I would warn others to beware of the added strings & choral voices, this LP gets 2 stars for the 2 excellent tracks that have no added strings etc. If you like strings then maybe this is your thing!"
Tjader Finds His Niche
G. A. Anderson | Reno, Nevada United States | 04/30/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Found his niche between the latin sound and the easy to get into melodies and managed to make his best album since Soul Sauce. The strings are reminiscent of his Warm Wave album, but it's not quite as floating and downtempo. Hard to dislike if you're even a casual Tjader fan."
