Master P's younger brother is at it again. But it's just the same as always. C-Murder is not messing with his uninspired but nonetheless platinum-plated formula. Following the success of his Life or Death and Bossalinie offerings, C-Murder returns with 23-tracks that are sure to impress his fans, but probably won't convert anyone else. Musical highlights include the heavily Tupac-influenced title track with its reverbed ad-libs and synthesizers. Then there's the guitar and pattering snare of "Forever TRU" and the eerie pianos and keys on "Staring at the Walls." But like his previous efforts the subject matter never leaves the streets. Titles like "Damned If They Murder Me," "They Want My Money," "Hustlin'," and "Young Thugs" speak for themselves. Tracks and musical ideas repeat like broken records. This is gangsta rap, not at its best, but adequate enough for day-to-day bump in your Jeep. But if you're looking for challenging hip-hop, with Trapped in Crime you're definitely looking in the wrong place. --Kenji Jasper

CD Reviews

Weird and Ultimately Self-Defeating
Fran Hyatt | East Palo Alto, California | 05/09/2004
(1 out of 5 stars)

"I'm really not sure what to think about this new Gay Gangsta Rap. It seems to me that the whole rap genre itself is inherently hostile to a gay sensibility. I appreciate the effort Bambu Taschiaglou (C-Murder's real name) has put into trying to use rap to make the black gangsta community accept these alternative lifestyles and lovestyles, but the music itself projects a mindset inimical to any sort of tolerance for "Greek" love. Young Mr. Tasciaglou would do better to try his luck with torch ballads or barbershop quartets, perhaps."
Good 3rd album from C

"C-Murder returns after 18 months to bring you his 3rd album in as many years. Slightly less quality than his first two but it still is a good album. Only has 3 songs on here that don't feature someone else. Has 3 or 4 songs that I skip and one classic track and one real good one, most are average or pretty good however. Production duties are mostly handled by XL (8 songs) and Ke'noe (5 songs) with a few others contributing most namely Jermaine Dupri and LT Hutton. A good album to have for hardocre rap or southern rap fans.

""TRAPPED IN CRIME" IS DEFINITELY C-MURDER'S TIGHTEST CD. THIS CD HAS ALOT OF TIGHT SONGS, THE BEST ONES ARE "FOREVER TRU", "CONCRETE JUNGLE" WITH SNOOP AND THE L.B.C CREW, "THEY DONT REALLY KNOW YOU" WITH MASTER P AND ERICA FOX, "RIDE" WITH SAM AND D.I.G., "YOUNG THUGS" WITH POPEYE AND HOLLOWAY, "DOWN 4 MY N'S" WITH SNOOP AND MAGIC, AND "STREET THUGS" WITH NEW-9 AND MAGIC. I THINK THIS CD IS BETTER THAN "BOSSALINIE" AND "LIFE OR DEATH", IT AINT THE BEST NO LIMIT CD BUT IT'S DEFINITELY WORTH CHECKING OUT! SO BUY THIS ALBUM, PEACE OUT."
