CD Reviews

Monday Off Swings!
02/06/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The other vocal groups out there could take a lesson from this new group: lighten up! This group swings and is raw and just sounds like they're having fun. That's one thing I would like to hear more of from groups like Manhatten Transfer and New York Voices and Take 6. They all have amazing harmonies, but it all sounds so produced to me. What ever happened to the days of listening to Lambert, Hendriks and Ross and basking in their raw-ness, their live sound and the fact that they sounded like they were having a ball? I never heard of Monday Off before, and was just searching for new Christmas music when I came across this CD. I took a chance and ended up loving it! I didn't know Bucky Pizarelli's work, either, (he appears on the album playing jazz guitar) but I've since bought some of his other CDs and have discovered a whole new world of music.
My only hope is that Monday Off comes out with more CDs soon. I look forward to watching them grow!"
Something other than Christmas music

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This group sounds great, the CD is full of terrific arrangements, but why don't they do a standards CD? Or big band? I'm waiting...Signed, already sick of Christmas music"
