"I spotted a review of this recording in the American Record Guide's Bruckner review of about two years ago. They wondered who this Heinz Roegner was after hearing his excellent recording with Berlin's Deutsche Sinfonie. It took me two years to find a copy and I must say it was a steal on this mid price label.



A relatively fast performance, it maintains a dignity and measured quality totally appropriate for Bruckner. The orchestra may not be in the same league as the Berlin Philharmonic, but they play with a unity of ensemble and transparent but solid tone suited for Bruckner. The sound from the early 1980s is excellent. You can't find a better played or sounding Bruckner 5 for the price unless EMI gets around to rereleasing Klemperer's."
