CD Reviews

An essential recording

"While browsing in a store this CD played in the background. Just as my wife and I were about to leave, "Beyond The Horizon" started playing and we were halted in our tracks by the shear haunting beauty on this song. I went back and bought the CD without hearing the remaining six songs. I was not disappointed. The first track has a slight jazz feel to it and second has some Celtic undertones to it. The mix of piano/keyboards and wind instruments are very comforting. This is great diner music as well as enjoyable at a predominate volume. I'm not a big saxophone music fan (sorry) but Bruce has done a great job of adding the soprano sax to several cuts that really highlight how beautifully the instrument can be played. The penny whistle and harp lines that run through most every selection on the CD definitely make me think of gentler times in Ireland, though I wouldn't really call "The Gathering" a Celtic release. Some songs have more of a "beat" and others paint a musical landscape fit for movie's soundtrack. This release has a very nice mixture of meditative broad works, uplifting hopeful melodies and soothing arrangements that at times are reminiscent of John Tesh's style - maybe it's just the sax. All in all, this is a wonderful collection of tunes that can lift your spirits and sooth frazzled nerves. Great for any music lover."
